about the artist
Siwei Liu
For over a decade, Siwei has been a visual designer and illustrator in the field of education. She has illustrated the simple joys of childhood—from nationwide classroom curricula and award-winning family board games to well-loved picture books. With an MFA in Illustration from Cal State Fullerton and growing up bilingual in Mandarin and Cantonese, she brings nostalgic moments into modern, heartwarming visual storytelling.
Now creating through the lens of motherhood, she’s even more passionate about ensuring the next generation connects with their heritage, seeing their stories and wonder reflected on every page.

Absolutely. No artistic experience is required to participate in The Community Lantern Project. The workshop is designed for all skill levels, and art materials will be provided to help you create your own contribution.
No. Submitting artwork is completely optional. Guests are welcome to participate in the workshop and enjoy the experience without contributing their artwork to The Community Lantern Project. Submitted artwork will be used as inspiration for the featured artist as they create the final Community Lantern.
Yes. The Community Lantern Project is open to children and adults of all ages. Children are encouraged to participate in the art workshop with a parent or guardian.
The completed Community Lantern will be revealed at The Market Place during Lunar New Year 2027. The final installation will be created by our featured artist using the community’s artwork, ideas, and stories as inspiration.
Community artwork will serve as inspiration for the featured artist as they create an original lantern installation for Lunar New Year 2027. Individual submissions may inspire elements such as colors, imagery, themes, and stories, but submitted artwork may not appear directly in the final design.
